Kim Delaney (born Kim Delaney) is an American actor best recognized for her role as detective Diane Russell in ABCs NYPD Blue, for which she earned an Emmy Award. Kim Delaney is known as the character Detective Diane Russell on the ABC series NYPD Blue. She also appeared on the drama show All My Children Philly, CSI: Miami, and Army Wives. Delaney was the sole child of an United Auto Workers executive and his wife who was a domestic worker. Her upbringing was in a family that included four brothers. As a child, she dreamt of being a reporter for the court. After graduating from high school and moving to New York in the 1980s then she started modeling. As a teenager her first appearance as an actress came in the soap opera All My Children. Since then, Delaney has been in a variety of TV dramas and films. Similar to her profession but her personal life hasn't been easy or prosperous. The accomplished actor has been battling alcoholism and she has experienced two failed marriages. In 2005 she lost the custody of her son.
